    How to Get a Louisiana Nursing License

    If you want to expand your nursing career to Louisiana, keep these facts and fees in mind before you start the Louisiana nursing license process:

    • $100 fee for Louisiana nursing license application by exam
    • You must have a fingerprint background check ($38 fee)
    • $10 additional fee for LiveScan fingerprinting at the LSBN office
    • $100 fee for a 90-day temporary endorsement permit while waiting for your RN license
    • Louisiana is not a member of the Enhances Nurse Licensure Compact.
    • All individuals must pass the NCLEX ($200 fee from Pearson Vue)

    • All Louisiana nursing license renewals must be completed online
    • Louisiana is currently shifting from a yearly renewal to a biennial renewal. By the 2019 renewal season, all nurses will be renewing for 2 years
    • Continuing education requirements can be satisfied by; 1600 hours of nursing work and 5 contact hours of continuing education, 160 hours of nursing and 10 contact hours of continuing education, 15 contact hours of continuing education
    • The Louisiana nursing license renewal period is October 1st to January 31st
    • Renewals due January 31st and you must pay a late fee if you have not renewed by December 31st
