How to Get a Michigan Nursing License

There are two primary ways to get your Michigan nursing license, either through examination or endorsement. Learn more about the processes and requirements below.

    • To qualify for your Michigan nursing license via examination, you must be a graduate of an approved RN education program in the U.S. See list of approved education programs here.
    • For license by examination, RNs must also pass the NCLEX-RN examination. Applicants can register for the test online, via email or telephone. Payment is required and test results can take up to four weeks from your test date.
    • To be eligible for your Michigan nursing license via endorsement, you must submit the  endorsement license application online. In addition, a fingerprint report, criminal background and associated fees are required.

Note: The Michigan Board of Nursing is no longer accepting paper applications. RNs must apply for their Michigan nursing license online through the Board’s new online system.

    Michigan Nursing License Verification

    • If you do not complete the required continuing education hours, you will be in violation of the Michigan Public Health Code and at risk for license sanctions.
