    How to Get an Ohio Nurse License

    Whether you’re applying for your nursing license via examination or endorsement, there are some important things keep in mind when starting your application process.

    • Prospective RNs must enroll in a nursing program that has been approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing, in addition to completing the NCLEX-RN examination.
    • All licensure and certification applications must be completed online via the state’s “eLicense.Ohio.gov” website.
    • To apply for your state of Ohio nursing license via endorsement, you must complete the endorsement application as well as criminal records check. Fee for application, $75.
    • Ohio issues temporary licenses 1-2 weeks after required paperwork is received. This license is valid for 180 days.

    Ohio Nurse License Verification

    If you currently hold an Ohio nursing license, you can go to the Ohio eLicense Center website, eLicense.Ohio.gov, which provides online license and certificate verification.

    If you are an out-of-state RN applying for an Ohio nurse license via endorsement, you can go to Nursys.com. Here you can navigate to the Nursys Licensure Verification tab, which is an online service where you can request a secure electronic verification of licensure.

    Ohio Nursing License Renewal

    To complete your Ohio nursing license renewal on time, please keep the following in mind:

    • Prior to renewal, RNs must complete twenty-four contact hours of continuing education. At least one of the hours must be related to Chapter 4723 of the Ohio nurse practice code and rules.
