    How to Get Your Texas Nursing License

    Getting your Texas nurse license can be confusing, not to mention stressful at times. Below is everything you need to know about attaining your Texas nursing license:

    • Prospective RNs must attend a professional nursing program approved by the Texas Board of Nursing, in addition to meeting additional eligibility requirements.
    • To qualify for Texas nursing license endorsement, individuals must already meet the licensing requirements in another jurisdiction as well as take the online jurisprudence exam.
    • RNs who apply for Texas nursing license endorsement will be issued a 120 day temporary license within 15 working days after the endorsement application is complete. Application fee of $186.
    • Texas is a member of the Nurse License Compact, which allows nurses licensed in one compact state to practice in Texas without having to get a Texas nursing license.

    Texas Nursing License Renewal

    RNs can quickly and easily renew their Texas nursing license via the Texas Board of Nursing website. Below are a few things to keep in mind when starting the Texas nursing license renewal process:

    • The state of Texas requires RNs to renew their license every two years. Renewal fee of $60.
    • Texas requires nurses to complete 20 hours of continuing nursing education every two years in order to be eligible for re-licensure.
    • Individuals can’t renew their license online if their primary state of residence is a compact state other than Texas.

    Texas Nurse License Verification

    If you’re a RN in Texas, you can verify your nursing license online via the Texas Board of Nursing website. If you’re an out-of-state RN applying for a Texas nurse license endorsement, you can go to Nursys.com. Here you can navigate to the Nursys Licensure Verification tab, which is an online service where you can request a secure electronic verification of licensure.
