In a pediatric intensive care nurse job, the PICU RN provides care for children and adolescents with life-threatening or high-acuity conditions that require constant monitoring. The pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) is a high-tech children’s services area for critically ill, medically complex and/or post-surgical patients. PICU RNs also collaborate with families, physicians and other healthcare officials on patient care and recovery.

Those interested in pursuing a PICU nurse job must have completed a four-year course of instruction at an accredited university, or have earned an associate of nursing degree from a two-year community college followed by a diploma program at a healthcare facility. In addition, according to our partner NurseZone, many facilities require additional pediatric education and support (PEDS) training.

The 2012 Nurse Salary Survey from ADVANCE for Nurses does not provide specific information on PICU nursing salaries, although it found that ICU nurses make an average of $75,800 annually, while pediatric nurses average $72,600. Nurses with tenured experience may receive higher levels of compensation. NursesRx’s travel partners offer pediatric intensive care nurse jobs in locations throughout the United States with competitive PICU nurse salary rates.

In addition, we’re proud to offer our travel nursing professionals a robust suite of benefits that include free housing, job-related travel reimbursements, bonus options, flexible schedules, free liability insurance, assistance with acquiring licensing (in any state) and comprehensive health/vision/dental coverage.
